How to attach a windsock to a windsock mast

The process to attach a windsock to the windsock mast depends on the type of swivel system at the top of the mast. There are two types of swivel system: swivel arm system and swivel frame system.

Swivel arm system

If you have a swivel arm system the windsock is attached by a harness. The windsock mast will have a bearing housing with an arm attached. The arm extends out and at its end is an eye or ring so a swivel shackle or snap clip can be attached. The shackle or clip is fitted to the end of the windsock harness. This system is used mostly in the UK, though is sometimes used in other countries too. When attaching a windsock using a swivel arm system make sure the harness does not become crossed. See image below which illustrates the correct position.

Swivel frame system

Alternatively, a swivel frame system can be used to support a windsock at the top of the windsock mast. The frame keeps a short length of the windsock open. The mouth of windsock is pulled over the frame and secured by cable ties or a lacing cord. This system is used widely in America; however, it is used many other parts of the world.
