Windsocks and water treatment plants

At Windsock Company we supply windsocks as health and safety aids to several industries including water treatment plants.

Windsocks and the water purifying process

Windsocks are an accurate wind direction indicator and a vital health and safety aid to water treatment plants. During the purifying process of our drinking water lime-based products are used to soften and improve the water quality. The water purification process ensures we have better tasting water and our water lathers readily. Lime dust can be an irritant to humans if inhaled or comes in contact with eyes or skin.  This hazard increases in high winds where lime dust could be blow around the water treatment plant. Installing a windsock on the water treatment site so that in the event of strong winds, staff can see the wind direction and take the necessary action to avoid contact with lime dust.

Essential wind direction indicator

Recently we provided a windsock for this purpose to Alpha Building Services (Wales) Ltd at a Water Treatment Works in South Wales. The plant has three clearly visible windsocks at different locations to indicate windsock direction.

Windsocks are an essential precaution to indicate wind direction for potential lime-dust hazards that may occur in high or cross winds. Mal Jenkins of Alpha Building Services (Wales) Ltd who has installed windsocks for Welsh Water and other companies commented. “The windsock and parts supplied by Windsock Company are high quality and the instructions were very easy to follow making the installation very straightforward.”
