It’s time to check your windsock

During the summer months your windsock will have been be exposed to high levels of UV and extreme high temperatures. Therefore as we come out of summer and into autumn we recommend you check your windsock to assess whether it has suffered any damage and to ensure it’s fully operational.  The life cycle of a windsock will depend on all these factors plus its environment and exposure to pollution.

Unfortunately, all windsock material will eventually fade and wear out. At Windsock Company we produce premium quality windsocks using tried and tested quality fabric. Therefore, we expect our windsocks to last as long as, or, longer than other manufacturers. Even so, we still recommend regular checks especially during periods of extreme weather to ensure your windsock is fully functional and fit for propose.

Windsocks are a significant aid to pilots and to health and safety requirements in many industries: aviation, refrigeration and the oil and gas industry. Therefore, all elements need to be fully functional so not only the actual windsock, but the windsock mast, its fittings and swivel system.

Functional check list:
  • There has been no fraying or damage to the windsock
  • The windsock is still highly visible and not significantly faded.
  • Check the windsock is not tangled so it can move freely.
  • Is the windsock secured correctly to its swivel system?
  • Ensure the swivel system is still working and the windsock can rotate about 360 degrees.
  • The mast is not damaged or off centre.
  • All fittings, screws and holding bolts are still secure.

At Windsock Company we recommend you always have a spare windsock. So, when ordering your next windsock, order two so you have one spare, for when you need to replace it. This will save you delivery costs as well.

Our standard range of windsocks are available to purchase from our online shop or alternatively get in touch with the Windsock team via our online form for help and advice.
