Many windsock companies supply snap clips to attach windsocks to the swivel arm at the top of the mast. However, few people understand the several vulnerabilities of commercially available snap clips:
Snap clip vulnerabilities:
- Snap clips are often made of plated brass and are subjected to constant movement, eventually they will wear through and fail.
- The windsock can become twisted into a position which puts pressure on the clip and causes the spring gate to open.
- The small spring that keeps the clip gate closed often corrodes and fails due to its exposure to environment.
These factors can cause the windsock to become detached from the swivel arm and be blown away. This is particularly serious in aviation as should a stray windsock become caught up in the blades of helicopter it could be catastrophic. It is essential all windsocks are fitted properly and are not at risk of becoming disconnected in an aviation or other industries.
Swivel shackle system
At Windsock Company we decided in 2013 to only supply swivel shackle systems to attach windsocks to swivel arms. Swivel shackles are made of strong stainless steel and secure the windsock using a bolt and nylock. Assuming fitted correctly they are totally secure.
Although, it takes a few minutes to fit you will have peace of mind knowing that fitted properly your windsock will not detach itself and become a hazard.
At Windsock Company we manufacture and supply premium quality windsocks using tried and tested quality components. Therefore, we expect our windsocks and components to last as long as, or, longer than other manufacturers. Even so, we still suggest regular checks especially after long periods of extreme weather. This is to ensure your windsock is fully functional and fit for purpose.
Our standard range of windsocks are available from our online shop. Alternatively get in touch for bespoke orders via our online form, via email our team. or call +44 (0) 1245 430700
