In this blog post we would like to tell you about product attributes and the components we use to ensure our windsocks give maximum value for money for harsh outdoor conditions. We source our components carefully and consistently to ensure continuity of quality. Many have been selected with experience from the marine industry.
Windsock product and component attributes are:
- Size.
- Fabric.
- Colour.
- Fittings.
- Optional features.
Size
Usually the first part of the specification quoted. We have a windsock size to suit all requirements from aviation to industrial site safety. And if you require a size we haven’t got then we will make it.
Fabric
Our windsocks are strong, durable and have a good resistance to fading. Our standard windsocks are made from polyester which is generally superior to nylon when used in this application. Nylon was used many years ago and is still specified by some buyers but in general polyester, for windsocks, is the better fabric. But we do offer nylon for customers who require their windsocks to be made in the sometimes specified colour of International Orange.
Colour
Our standard polyester windsocks are fluorescent orange. Our nylon windsocks are international orange. If you require a colour other than orange we offer plain colours such as red, yellow, green and blue which are made to order. We also manufacture windsocks in stripe combination colours.
For example:
- red and white.
- orange and white.
- orange and black.
- white and black.
Fittings
We provide the exact correct fittings to suit your mast swivel system. There are two popular styles of fitting: 1) windsock with a sewn in mouth ring and four way harness with swivel shackle. This fits onto the end of the swivel arm at the top of your mast; 2) windsock fitted with a band of eyelets and supplied with cable ties. This fits over and onto your existing swivel frame at the top of your mast. If you don’t have a swivel system you need to call us. For some major airport systems we supply windsocks with a mouth batten fitting which is fixed to your existing swivel frame with supplied bolts.
Optional features
In addition to our standard windsocks we offer custom printing of names and logos. This is a great way to advertise your company presence as the windsock, being bright orange, is usually easily seen. Anti flutter / anti fray gauze is another feature that some customers request. It is said to stabilize the movement of the windsock tail and take the wear and tear of the wind – thus prolonging the life of the windsock.
